  2. The AS2 has 3 layers and is 12” tall.
  3. The AS3 is also 12” tall with 3 layers, but the topmost comfort layer is 1” thicker than in the AS1 or AS2.
  4. Similarly, the AS4 is 12” tall with 3 layers, and again, the comfort layer is another inch thicker.
  5. The AS5 is 14” tall and has 4 total layers including 2 layers of transition foam between the memory foam and support foam.

Sleep Trial

The Amerisleep mattresses come with a 100 night sleep trial. You have to try the mattress for 30 nights before the company will accept a return. After 30 nights have elapsed, you have another 70 nights to initiate a return if you are not satisfied.

Terms for the sleep trial may be different if the mattress is purchased through Amazon. Check with Amerisleep and with Amazon before purchasing to confirm sleep trial details.

Amerisleep mattresses come with a 20-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. During the first ten years, the company will provide a new mattress if yours is deemed defective. During years 11-20, the company will either repair or replace a defective mattress. The cost of a replacement during years 11-20 is 50% of your initial purchase price. Full warranty terms can be found at https://www.amerisleep.com/warranty-information.

Amerisleep Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is a strength of memory foam because of how well it contours to the body. The foam only compresses in places where weight is directly applied, so very little motion transfers from one part of the mattress to another. Each of the Amerisleep mattresses can be expected to offer above-average motion isolation, and it will be even more pronounced with the AS4 and AS5 mattresses that have softer, thicker memory foam comfort layers.

Edge Support

The Amerisleep mattresses are only average when it comes to edge support. Because of the way that memory foam compresses, it can have issues with providing enough firmness around the edge, especially in softer models. Without additional reinforcements around the edge, some customers have issues with sitting or lying down on the edge of these mattresses.

Heat Retention

Amerisleep uses a type of memory foam that is known as “open-cell,” which is intended to help prevent the foam itself from retaining heat because air can move through the foam more easily. The Celliant cover can also help to prevent excessive heat retention. Despite this, the contouring effect of memory foam can cause heat to buildup around the body. This is more likely to be an issue with the softer of the Amerisleep models because they permit more of the body to sink into the mattress.

Off-Gassing

There is some smell that comes from the Amerisleep mattresses when they are first set up in your home. This is similar to almost all foam mattresses, but the smell is not harmful and should be gone within a few hours or at most a few days.

Support

The Amerisleep mattresses are built to offer support based on the responsiveness of memory foam. By tailoring the amount of cushioning to each part of the body, memory foam helps to address any pressure points in the body and, in doing so, promote healthy spinal alignment.

The only potential concerns that we have when it comes to support are for the AS1 and AS2 mattresses because they only have 2” of memory foam in the comfort layer. With a thinner comfort layer, there is a greater chance that the foam will not be thick enough to cushion people with very sharp pressure points or people who weigh over 230 pounds.

Conforming

Memory foam has the reputation of being the most conforming material available on the market, and as a result, it is a great choice for people who want significant hug in their mattress. The softer Amerisleep models that permit more sink will have an even enhanced contouring effect.

Durability

All of the Amerisleep mattresses are made with high-density (4 PCF) memory foam in the comfort layer, and the supporting layers are also of solid foam densities. Since density can directly affect the durability of a mattress, these Amerisleep models all should perform well over many years.

Sex

Since memory foam can give the feeling of sinking into the mattress, especially with plusher models like the AS4 and AS5, some people feel as though it limits their movement on top of the mattress. Amerisleep has formulated their foams with a goal of providing some extra bounce or resilience, which can help alleviate this issue, but these mattresses, like most memory foam, are at best average when it comes to facilitating sex.

Amerisleep AS2 Mattress

What Type of Sleeper Is Well Suited to an Amerisleep Mattress?

Certain mattresses are better for some sleepers than others. While there is no simple formula for knowing exactly which mattress may be best for you, thinking about your sleeping position and weight can be a useful starting point.

Side Sleepers: People who sleep on their side need lots of pressure point relief, and all of the Amerisleep models can provide that with memory foam. The AS1 and A2, with thinner comfort layers, though, may not be as well suited to sleepers who weigh more than average.

Back Sleepers: Back sleepers can also get a great night’s sleep on memory foam and usually have better results with memory foam that is slightly firmer to prevent too much sinking of the abdomen.

Stomach Sleepers: Like back sleepers, stomach sleepers usually have the best results from memory foam that is not too soft because they do not want to feel suffocated by a mattress.
