Brooklyn Bedding Bowery Mattress Review

Brooklyn Bedding has established itself as a leading company in online mattresses. A strength of the company is the diversity of its product line, and the Bowery mattress line offers supportive, Medium-firm beds at competitive prices.

The Bowery mattress is made entirely with foam, while the Bowery Hybrid includes foam and an innerspring support core. Each mattress has a thoughtfully designed series of layers that works to keep your body cushioned without causing you to sink into the bed.

These mattresses aren’t extravagant or loaded with bells-and-whistles, but they are solid and plenty effective at offering a comfortable and restorative night’s sleep.

Brooklyn Bedding Bowery Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

The Bowery and Bowery Hybrid are both good at isolating motion. The 3” of Energex foam in the Bowery and the 1” quilted memory foam in the Bowery Hybrid can insulate motion enough to avoid disruptions for most sleepers.

Edge Support

The Bowery Hybrid has very good edge support because of its innerspring core and firmer transition foam.

The Bowery all-foam mattress, though, is average at best when it comes to edge support because of the tendency of the foam layers to compress when weight is applied around the exterior.

Heat Retention

Both Bowery mattresses are good at avoiding heat retention. The Energex foam in the Bowery mattress does not retain heat like traditional memory foam, and the Bowery Hybrid gets plenty of airflow through the innerspring coils and transition foam.

Off-Gassing

It is normal for there to be a detectable smell when these mattresses are first removed from their packaging, but this smell is not worse than other, similar mattresses. The smell should go away within a few hours.

Support

The Bowery mattress provides quality support as a result of the 3” Energex foam provided in the comfort layer. This polyfoam combines the responsiveness of memory foam with the resilience of latex. It cushions your pressure points to keep your body in alignment.

The Bowery Hybrid provides support via the 1” of memory foam layer in the quilted cover. The use of individually-encased coils improves the responsiveness and its ability to keep your spine well-aligned.

Conforming

Through the Energex foam and memory foam used in the comfort layers of the Bowery and Bowery Hybrid, both provide meaningful contouring but do not excessively hug the body.

Durability

The materials in the Bowery and Bowery Hybrid are durable enough so that these mattresses should provide several years of quality performance.

Sex

Neither the Bowery nor Bowery Hybrid should inhibit sexual activity. There is enough resilience from the Energex foam in the Bowery and the coils in the Hybrid to easily permit movement on top of the bed.

Brooklyn Bedding Bowery Hybrid Mattress

What Type of Sleeper is Suited to the Brooklyn Bedding Bowery Mattress?

Determining whether a mattress is a good fit for you depends on many factors. Two important factors are your sleeping position and your weight.

Side sleepers: side sleepers can get great results with both the Bowery and Bowery Hybrid. Side sleepers of a lower body weight can do well with either, but side sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds may have issues, especially with the Hybrid because it has a thin comfort layer.

Back sleepers: the Bowery Hybrid will be a better option for most back sleepers because it has a firmer sleeping surface. People over 230 pounds may not find that they get enough support, though, because of the lower amount of contouring foam in the comfort layer.

Stomach sleepers: because stomach sleepers can maintain spinal alignment more easily on a firm mattress, the Bowery Hybrid is generally a wiser choice for them. This firmer mattress may not have a robust enough comfort layer for stomach sleepers with a higher body weight.

Our Verdict

The Bowery and Bowery Hybrid feature simple design and materials to offer a quality night’s sleep at a great price. The Bowery Hybrid, in particular, is more affordable than many comparable hybrids.

Both mattresses have features to provide contouring and support but without causing overheating or a feeling of being stuck in the bed.

For customers who want a good value from a well-respected company, the Bowery mattresses from Brooklyn Bedding are worth a serious look.
