Casper’s relentless commitment to developing exciting new mattresses is on full display in the Casper Wave Hybrid.

The Wave Hybrid is a luxury mattress that is loaded with features and design elements that set it apart from many other hybrids on the market. Its mix of materials — including latex, polyfoam, memory foam, and innerspring coils — allows it to capture a range of beneficial characteristics, including bounce, comfort, and spinal support.

Casper’s innovative system of targeted gel pods gives the mattress an extra touch of tailored cushioning that supplements each of the other layers. It is Medium Soft, around a 4.5 on the firmness scale, creating an especially plush and inviting feel.

The Wave Hybrid also touts excellent conforming for pressure point relief, considerable motion isolation to prevent nighttime disturbances, and virtually noiseless performance.

Casper is a proven name in the industry and backs each Wave Hybrid with a 100-night no-hassle sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. Casper also offers free white-glove mattress delivery and installation, including haul-away of an old mattress, for the Wave Hybrid.

Five total layers with different materials are used to construct the Casper Wave Hybrid.

  • The first layer is aerated polyfoam that is formulated to be soft and contouring.
  • The second layer is aerated latex that is bouncy and resilient.
  • The third layer is viscoelastic memory foam that is soft and conforming.
  • The fourth layer is high-resilience polyfoam embedded with targeted gel pods.
  • The bottom layer is 7” of pocketed innerspring coils. The coils are surrounded by an exterior reinforcement with high-density polyfoam.

The cover is made with a wool-blend cover for additional softness and moisture-wicking.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

The Casper Wave Hybrid offers excellent motion isolation. The top layer of soft polyfoam conforms to the body without compressing other parts of the mattress. The layer of memory foam in the comfort system also works to limit motion transfer. The high level of motion isolation makes the Wave Hybrid an appealing choice for couples.

Edge Support

The edge support from the Wave Hybrid is only fair. The softness and conforming of the comfort system creates extra compression of the foams around the exterior of the bed. Most people will notice this compression when sitting on the edge of the bed, especially if they weigh over 230 pounds.

Casper designed the innerspring coils with a foam reinforcement around the perimeter to improve edge support. This keeps the mattress stable at the edge, but with the soft foams above it, the Wave Hybrid is just average for edge support.

Heat Retention

Temperature regulation is very good for Wave Hybrid. The top layer of polyfoam is aerated, letting air pass through small holes to fight heat buildup. Latex, which makes us the second layer, naturally resists heat retention, but it is aerated to permit even more cooling airflow. Air also moves easily through the support core of innerspring coils, and the wool cover wicks moisture to prevent waking up feeling clammy. All of these design elements contribute to a mattress that does a solid job of keeping you cool at night.

When the Wave Hybrid is first set up in your home, you can expect some light smell. The off-gassing from this mattress is less than that of many other mattresses sold online, especially all-foam beds. Any smell from the Wave Hybrid will go away within a matter of hours as long as your bedroom is well-ventilated, and there is no health risk from this odor.

The combination of layers in the comfort system of the Wave Hybrid all work together to make sure that your spine gets the support that it needs. The polyfoam, latex, and memory foam all have contouring qualities that help give proportional support to the parts of your body that need it most.

Another boost to the support of the Wave Hybrid is the system of targeted gel pods. These pods are embedded within a layer of high-resilience polyfoam, and they are strategically placed to provide extra cushioning in areas that need pressure relief. For example, these pods can provide extra comfort at the shoulders and hips.

By making sure that each part of the body gets appropriate cushioning, the Wave Hybrid promotes healthy spinal alignment and support so that you are unlikely to wake up with back pain.

The Wave Hybrid provides a very high level of conforming thanks to its mix of materials and its softer feel. While the mattress retains bounce, there is a noticeable hug from the comfort system when you lie down on the bed.

The Wave Hybrid is still relatively new to the market, so long-term data about its lifespan is unavailable. However, all indications are that this mattress should have a lifespan of at least 6-8 years because of its robust design and materials.

The Wave Hybrid is about average when it comes to facilitating sexual activity. Bounce, which this mattress has from the latex and innerspring layers, makes it easier to move on top of the mattress, but its softness and high level of conforming may slow movement down compared to some other beds. Most couples won’t find that the Wave Hybrid impedes their sex life, but it also isn’t the optimal bed for intimate activities.

The Wave Hybrid is a very quiet mattress, especially for one that has a sizable support core of innerspring coils. The comfort system is virtually noiseless and helps insulate any sounds from the coils. It is rare for customers to complain of noise from the Wave Hybrid.

What Type of Sleeper is Suited to a Casper Wave Hybrid?

Whether a mattress meets your individual needs for support and comfort can depend on a sizable range of factors. Two of those factors are your primary sleeping position and your body weight as each of these can play an important role in whether or not a mattress is a good fit for you.

Side Sleepers: most people who sleep on their side will have a great experience on the Casper Wave Hybrid. Side sleepers who weigh under 130 pounds are a particularly good fit because they can benefit from the conforming and responsiveness without sinking too deeply into the bed. Some side sleepers, especially those who weigh 230 pounds and over, though, may find the Wave Hybrid to permit too much sink.

Back Sleepers: the softness and hug of the Wave Hybrid can be too much for back sleepers who weigh above 230 pounds, but most other back sleepers will enjoy this mattress. People under 130 pounds will find that the softer feel delivers comfort without feeling like they are sleeping in (rather than on) the mattress.

Stomach Sleepers: people who sleep on their stomach usually do best with a firmer sleeping surface, and for this reason, the Wave Hybrid is too soft for many people in this sleeping position. The main exception are lighter-weight stomach sleepers who do not put as much pressure on the mattress and are less likely to feel that they are sinking too deeply into the comfort layers.

Our Verdict

The Casper Wave Hybrid shows just how far Casper has come since it first burst onto the mattress scene in 2014. While the Original Casper is still a great mattress, the Wave Hybrid represents a leap forward in terms of design.

Whereas the Original Casper features a straightforward and mostly no-frills construction style, the Wave Hybrid pulls out all the stops to deliver a top-notch night’s sleep. By including wool in the cover, it stays breathable and wicks moisture to provide a first line of defense against sleeping hot.

The top two layers of the comfort system are both aerated, bolstering the temperature regulation abilities of the mattress. Those layers, made of polyfoam and latex, bring a notable amount of contouring and bounce. The conforming is enhanced further by the layer of memory foam that sits beneath them.

Each of these layers helps with pressure point relief, and that effect is augmented by the polyfoam layer with embedded targeted gel pods. This unique design gives this layer more flexibility to provide cushioning just where your body needs it, such as at the shoulders or other sharp pressure points.

Another major difference in the Wave Hybrid is its innerspring support core. Its pocketed coils serve as a strong base for the mattress while having enough proportional compression to contribute to the bed’s responsiveness. The coils have edge reinforcements to improve support around the exterior of the mattress.

The Medium Soft feel (4.5) of the Wave Hybrid provides the type of plush sleeping surface that just adds to the sense of luxury that comes with this mattress. This comfort feel may be too soft for some sleepers, especially people who have above-average body weight, but it suits most other sleepers well, especially those who weigh 130 pounds or less.

Casper is a well-respected brand that has shown staying power and continued dedication to customer service. The sleep trial from Casper is 100 nights and does not have any conditions or gimmicks. If you don’t like the mattress during the sleep trial, you can return it for a full refund.

A final benefit of the Wave Hybrid is that it comes with free white-glove installation within just a few days. This means that you don’t have to do any unboxing or setup. Representatives from Casper will come to your home, set up the mattress in your bedroom, and haul-away your old mattress.

For people who are looking to invest in a luxury mattress and want a hybrid from a proven company, the Casper Wave Hybrid is a top choice and one that can meet high expectations for quality and performance.
