Grund started out as a family business in Czechoslovakia in 1990 and expanded to America in 2014. The company originally made bathroom rugs and has since branched into other bath textiles such as towels and bathrobes. More recently, Grund has started making bedsheets.

Grund takes an environmentally friendly approach to all its products including its bedsheets, which are certified to be 100% organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Grund also carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and Green Business certification. These verify that the products are free of harmful substances and identify Grund as a company that utilizes its business as a platform for social change.

Currently, Grund makes just one type of sheets, available in four different colors. The Savannah Sheet collection features sheets made of organic cotton with a 300 thread count and sateen weave. The fitted sheet is fully elasticized for a snug fit. Grund also makes organic cotton throw blankets.

In this Grund sheet review we’ll dive deeper into how the sheets are made and how this affects the sleep experience. We’ll also take a look at pricing, sizing, and other practical details so you can decide whether Grund sheets could be the right fit for your home. Get the sleep you deserve with Grund.

Materials and Construction

How your sheets are made will go a long way towards determining how they feel when you sleep on them. Some of the most common materials for bedsheets are cotton, linen, and synthetic materials like polyester. Each has its pros and cons. Likewise, the way the sheets are woven and the quality of the workmanship can play a role in making the sheets feel soft or rough, cool or hot. Many companies stock different kinds of sheets to suit individual preferences. Grund America currently makes just one style of sheets, which are made from sustainably grown organic cotton.

Organic Cotton: These classic sheets are made of 100% organic cotton with a smooth sateen weave. In contrast to the percale weave traditionally preferred for sheets, sateen sheets are softer and less crisp. This makes them a favorite for the winter, although they are also breathable enough to be used in summer. Stylistically, they have a slight sheen reminiscent of satin.

Organic cotton is a durable material and with a thread count of 300, Grund sheets should last for years and resist pilling. Although it’s more expensive, organic cotton has a long list of benefits. Free of bleach, formaldehyde, and other toxic substances, organic cotton is not only soft against the skin but also lacks the harmful compounds present in many bedsheets. Its natural softness and lack of allergens makes it a great choice for people with sensitive skin. Plus, organic cotton is much healthier for the people who harvest it and the environment. The only slight drawbacks to these cotton sheets are that they may wrinkle and that you may have to wash them a few times before they soften up completely.

Grund Sheet Design Options

For many people, the color and design of a sheet set is just as important as the way it feels. Grund offers sheets in four simple, elegant colors that should complement most bedrooms. Check the Grund website before purchasing to ensure that your preferred color and size are available.

Cleaning and Care for Grund Sheets

As you’ll most likely be washing your sheets every week or two to keep them fresh, you’ll value having sheets that are easy to launder and can stand up to multiple washes. Like most cotton sheets, Grund sheets are fairly easy to care for. Just be sure to follow a few simple tips to ensure the longest life possible for your sheets.

Grund recommends machine-washing its organic cotton sheets in cold water on the gentle cycle and separate from other items. The sheets can be either line-dried or tumble-dried on low heat and promptly removed from the dryer. You may use non-chlorine bleach when necessary but avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets, both of which may affect the breathability of your sheets.

Since organic sheets don’t contain formaldehyde or any of the other chemicals that are often added to sheets to make them easy to care for, Grund sheets may wrinkle or stain more easily than some other brands. However, with proper care, you should be able to get many nights of good sleep out of your Grund sheets.
