Brooklyn Bedding has been constructing mattresses since 1995. They are a family-owned business and all their mattresses are made in their own factory in Arizona. Brooklyn Bedding sells a limited line of accessories like sheets and foundations, but don’t let the word “bedding” confuse you. They are serious about researching materials and building quality mattresses.

Brooklyn Bedding is one of the first companies in the U.S. to start rolling and boxing mattresses for easy shipping. The company makes six basic styles for different needs, plus a specialty collection that has even more customization. A recent addition is the Titan Latex hybrid mattress. In-depth Titan Mattress Review

At 11 inches thick, the Titan mattress is one of the few on the market designed specifically for people 250 pounds and over and is not recommended for lighter-weight individuals. The Titan is Brooklyn Bedding’s niche mattress to compete with other mattress brands that have designed mattresses for heavier people like Big Fig, WinkBeds, Saatva, and Helix Nightfall.

Titan Mattress Prices and Sizes

The following prices are for each size of the Titan mattress. These prices do not include the option cooling panel, which is an additional fee of $200.

Size Dimensions Height Weight Price
Twin 39” x 75” x 10” 11" 85 lb $699
Twin XL 39” x 80” x 10” 11" 60 lb $749
Full 54” x 75” x 10” 11" 85 lb $799
Queen 60” x 80” x 10” 11" 100 lb $999
King 76” x 80” x 10” 11" 120 lb $1,249
California King 72” x 84” x 10” 11" 120 lb $1,249

Firmness

The Titan comes in only one firmness level, on the far end of Medium Firm (8). The perceived firmness level of the Titan will depend upon your size, build, and preferences.

Availability

All Brooklyn Bedding products are available in the U.S. and Canada.

Although you can buy the Titan on Amazon, you are better off ordering directly from Brooklyn Bedding to get a freshly made mattress that has not been sitting at an Amazon warehouse. The Brooklyn Bedding does not store mattresses - they construct and package them to order.

Construction

The Titan Mattress is made up of four layers. The top comfort layer is a poly-cotton blend with 1 inch of memory-foam quilted into the cover. This top layer is designed to resist long-term body impressions while providing optimal cooling. An optional extra cooling top panel is also available for sleepers who sleep very hot.

Titan adds extra durability with a second 2-inch layer of extra-firm Titan-flex-foam, which adjusts to your every movement faster than traditional memory foam. You won’t have to endure that stuck-in-a-hole feeling that softer mattresses can give you.

The core-support layer is made of over 1,000 industrial-strength TitanCaliber springs for targeted pressure point relief. The individually wrapped pocket springs also help minimize motion transfer between sleep partners.  Because of the heavy-duty springs and firm foam layers, this is a non-conforming mattress. You will feel like you are sleeping on rather than in the bed. The final layer of the Titan is a 2-inch high-density foam base to reinforce the individual springs as they compress. The industrial strength core adds to the durability of the Titan and ensures reliable edge support for heavier individuals.

Shipping

Brooklyn Bedding ships to the 48 contiguous states by FedEx Ground Shipping. For shipping to Alaska and Hawaii, they charge $125 per mattress and $45 for accessories. Shipping to Canada is done by UPS for $250 per mattress and $65 for accessories. They do not ship to P.O. boxes.

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are shipped in a box, compressed and sealed in plastic. Mattresses are custom built to order so it takes an average of 2 to 3 business days to process your order and another 3-5 business days to arrive, depending on your location.

Expedited shipping is available. Shipping and returns are free in the lower 48 states. Your new mattress comes fully ready for use and springs back into shape within a day or less of opening. After a product has been shipped, it cannot be modified in any way. Canceled orders are subject to a $60 fee.

Additional Services

Brooklyn Bedding does not offer white glove delivery or removal of old mattresses.

Sleep Trial

The company offers a sleep trial of 120 days, allowing you to return or exchange your mattress within 120 days of purchase. They require a 30-day trial before asking for a return as it takes around 30 to 45 days for your body to adjust to the new mattress. 1 trial is allowed per year, per customer.

The customer is responsible for donating or removing their own mattress. Once they receive proof of donation, they will issue a full refund.

Warranty

The 10-year hassle-free warranty covers any defects to the mattress or impressions of 1 inch or more. The 120-day sleep trial and warranty do not apply to purchases made through Amazon. The warranty and sleep trial do not apply in Canada, Hawaii, or Alaska.

Titan Mattress Performance

Motion Isolation

The pocket coil construction combined with the 2-inch dense base gives this mattress excellent motion isolation. The materials and construction of the Titan are superior to most bed in a box mattresses. The bed holds up surprisingly well after unrolling from being compressed and retains its strength.

Edge Support

Edge to edge steel coils give this mattress good edge support. The spring coils are constructed using a heavy gauge steel on a machine built in-house by Brooklyn Bedding to provide extra reinforcement to the core spring layer. Larger sleepers will have no qualms about using the entire mattress or sleeping and sitting close to the edges.

Heat Retention

The quilted cover is filled with cooling gel that wicks heat away from your body. You also have the option of ordering an extra cooling layer for the top of the mattress. Since this is a mattress that does not sink very much, you are less likely to sleep hot. The coil spring core helps the air circulate continuously even with the layers of foam surrounding it.

Off-Gassing

Brooklyn Bedding has Certi-pure U.S. third-party testing certification on all of their mattress materials. Since they make their mattresses within three days of receiving your order, the materials are not sitting in plastic in a warehouse for months before you open your mattress. Any new mattress smell will be gone within 48 hours or less.

Support

The Titan is designed to give superior support for bodies 250 to 900 pounds. If you are a plus-sized person, you will not feel as if you are sinking into mud, the way you might feel on a regular mattress. Side sleepers will feel support for their spinal alignment without sinking in too deep because of spring durability.

Conforming

Conforming refers to how well the bed conforms to your body shape and fills in the most recessed parts, like the neck and lumbar spine. Because of its specific design for durability and support, this mattress may feel too firm to a smaller-build person who will not feel that their hips and shoulders can sink into the mattress enough to keep spinal alignment correct. The Titan was designed to be perfect for spinal alignment in every position for a larger body type.

Durability

The high-density foam base and the number of industrial-strength pocket-coils give this mattress extra durability. Heavier sleepers won’t find themselves sunk in a hole or feeling like they are stuck in the mud with this mattress. The comfort layer of quilted cooling gel on top of firm conforming latex foam is designed to spring back. Brooklyn Bedding has been researching materials extensively since 1995 and knows how to create a lasting mattress.

Sex

The Titan is a hybrid latex mattress so is not overly bouncy. You will have no trouble moving into different positions. The transition layer between the springs and the top layer make the mattress stable and supportive without being too soft. The 1,024 pocket springs give the bed enough reaction that you can move without sinking into the bed.

Noise

For a spring-core mattress, the Titan is fairly quiet because of the individually wrapped coil-springs.

What Type of Sleeper is Suited to a Titan Mattress?

Side Sleepers: The Titan mattress is a good fit for side sleepers who are larger. It will support spinal alignment because it is designed to distribute weight. For a sleeper under 250 pounds, it may feel too firm when you are lying on your side and may not conform to your curves well enough.

Back Sleepers: If you are a back sleeper of any size, this bed will support your spinal curvature fairly well. The contouring cradle of the top layer of foam may be a bit firm for smaller people. The Titan gives excellent support to the lumbar spine of heavier bodies without the feeling of sinking hips.

Stomach Sleepers: If you are a smaller person but you prefer an extra firm mattress, the Titan will be a great fit. Smaller-build sleepers may find this mattress a little too firm if you are used to a medium firmness. if you are over 230 pounds, the Titan is going to be very comfortable and supportive for your spinal alignment.

Under 130 lbs 130-230 lbs Above 230 lbs
Side Sleepers Fair Good Very Good
Back Sleepers Good Very Good Very Good
Stomach Sleepers Fair Fair Good

Our Verdict

Overall, this is a well-made mattress for the price. It will not appeal to everyone as it was designed for people between 250 and 900 pounds. The Titan is on the firm end of the spectrum with its industrial strength coil-spring technology. This mattress will give proper spinal support to larger figured people and last longer than mattresses designed for the average-sized person without sagging in the middle or wearing down around the edges.

The Titan has enough support that a larger person will not sink into it. The Titan gives the sense of sleeping on top of the bed rather than being stuck in it, which can be a problem for larger sleepers. Brooklyn Bedding is a reputable company with good reviews from the majority of customers.
