Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress Review
Tuft & Needle is easily one of the most well-recognized and successful online mattress companies. Yet even with the success of their Original mattress, the company has strived to improve their offerings, and that has led to the launch of the Tuft & Needle Mint mattress.
The Mint uses similar materials as the Original but adds an additional transition foam layer and boasts features meant to boost the responsiveness, edge support, and cooling properties of the mattress.
For customers interested in an all-foam mattress that blends contouring and bounce and that provides excellent comfort from its medium-firm feel, the Tuft & Needle Mint is a compelling new option to consider.

The cover of the Tuft & Needle Mint is made with a combination of micro polyamide and polyester. Micro polyamide is a synthetic fiber with a feel similar to cotton.
The interior of the mattress has three layers.
- The top layer is 3” of graphite-infused proprietary polyfoam, known as Adaptive Foam, with a density of 3.5 pounds per cubic foot (PCF).
- The second layer is 2” of gel-infused transition polyfoam with a density of 3 PCF.
- The third layer is 7” of support polyfoam with a density of 1.8 PCF. The exterior of this foam layer is reinforced for edge support.

Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress Performance
The Adaptive Foam in the top layer of the Mint mattress is effective at isolating motion. Very little movement is felt on other parts of the bed.
The support layer of the Mint mattress has reinforced foam intended to boost the overall edge support of the bed. This reduces the risk of the foam completely bottoming out when you lie or sit at the edge, but you should still expect some foam compression, especially in the top two layers.
The Mint mattress employs Tuft & Needle’s Adaptive Foam, which is a proprietary polyfoam blended according to the company’s specifications. This is an open-cell foam that facilitates cooling airflow within the mattress, and it does not hug and warm up the body in the same as traditional memory foam.
In addition, the Adaptive Foam in the top two layers has extra features to keep the mattress cool. The top layer is infused with graphite, and the second layer has ceramic gel-beads interspersed within the foam. In each case, these design elements work to reduce heat buildup.
As with all foam mattresses, there is an initial smell that comes from the Mint mattress when it is first taken out of the packaging. However, this smell is mild and short-lived. You can expect it to fade away within a few hours.
The Tuft & Needle Mint mattress delivers excellent support to help maintain spinal alignment. The Adaptive Foam is responsive enough to cushion the body where it needs it most, and at the same time, it is thick and dense enough to prevent bottoming out.
The amount of conforming of the Mint mattress is moderate. While it compresses to accommodate the body’s weight, it does not have the deep sink or hug found with traditional memory foam.
The Mint mattress is a new product from Tuft & Needle, so it does not have an extended track record that we can use to evaluate its durability. Based on its materials and the performance of the Original Tuft & Needle mattress, we expect the Mint to last at least 6-8 years.
Adaptive Foam has more bounce than traditional memory foam, and for this reason, it remains relatively easy to move on top of the bed. There is little risk of feeling stuck in the mattress in a way that would inhibit an active sex life.

What Type of Sleeper is Suited to the Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress?
Finding the best mattress for you requires considering multiple variables. Two of the most important to consider are your sleeping position and your body weight.
Side sleepers: in order to preserve spinal alignment, side sleepers need a responsive mattress. Side sleepers have sharp pressure points at the shoulders and hips, and a mattress that can provide proportional cushioning can keep those points aligned with the rest of the body. A medium-firm mattress tends to deliver the best balance of comfort and support for side sleepers.
With its contouring and pressure-relieving Adaptive Foam comfort layer, the Tuft & Needle Mint mattress offers the support side sleepers need. It has a medium firm feel that is a 6 on the firmness scale, providing a solid enough surface for the Tuft & Needle Mint to work for side sleepers of virtually any weight.
Back sleepers: back sleepers have different needs than side sleepers. They don’t have sharp pressure points but do need robust support to keep the lower torso from sinking out of alignment with the body. For this reason, a medium firm or firm mattress tends to give the best results for back sleepers. The higher a back sleeper’s body weight, the more likely they are to benefit from a higher firmness level.
For this reason, the Mint mattress is a good bet for back sleepers who weigh under 230 pounds. For those over 230 pounds, the foam may permit too much sink to offer sufficient support.
Stomach sleepers: when sleeping on your stomach, a firm mattress can keep the hips and abdomen from depressing too deeply into the bed. This is important because it avoids a U-shaped spinal misalignment. Lower-weight stomach sleepers can use a slightly less firm mattress because they are less likely to sink deeply into the bed.
As a result, the Mint mattress is best suited to stomach sleepers under or around 130 pounds. People with higher body weights may find this mattress to lack the necessary firmness to keep the body in line.
|Under 130 lbs||130-230 lbs||Above 230 lbs|

Adaptive Foam has been a huge hit in the Original Tuft & Needle mattress, and in the Mint, the company has innovated and incorporated new features to further enhance mattress performance.
The thick, dual layers of Adaptive Foam offer a great blend of contouring and resilience, cushioning the body but without any sense of sleeping on quicksand. The foam has infusions of graphite and gel to prevent overheating during the night. Reinforced edge support helps resolve a common complaint about all-foam beds.
Though a bit more expensive than the Original Tuft & Needle, the Mint is worth it for customers who want a few extra features. Those features will offer the most benefit and appeal to side sleepers and people who tend to sleep hot.
The Mint comes with the same 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty as the Original Tuft & Needle, and customers can take comfort in knowing that the company has fostered a stellar reputation both for value and for customer care.
Customers have reported excellent experiences in working with Tuft & Needle even if they were not satisfied with the mattress itself.
Tuft & Needle is a leading company in the new wave of mattress companies that started online. They have grown their product line and their distribution with new stores and partners, and through this process they have maintained a reputation for quality products and excellent value.
Tuft & Needle has a A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
